5.7 magnitude earthquake hits Northern Samar, felt in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY – Residents of Bicol Region felt the 5.7-magnitude earthquake recorded Monday off the sea north of Pambugan town in Northern Samar.

The tectonic-tectonic earthquake was recorded at 11:39 a.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Pilar City and Sorsogon City felt the fourth intensity. Legazpi City and Tabaco City in Albay felt the third intensity, Virac City in Catanduanes, Masbate City in Masbate, and Irosin and Bulusan cities in Sorsogon.

The Geophysical Monitoring Authority said it expected aftershocks.

The Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reminded the public to follow the advisories issued by the authorities, as the Civil Defense Office monitors the affected areas.
