Dimapur, August 25: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kiphire, in partnership with 12th Battalion, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, conducted a mock earthquake drill on August 2 and 23 at Mount Horeb Baptist School, Pungro town. The mock drill was led by Deputy Commandant A. Boboi, with ADC Pungro James T. Khulu Tikhir acting as Officer-in-Charge (RO) and EAC Pungro Yitachu Thur acting as Incident Commander. On the first day, a practical exercise was conducted to discuss the roles of various stakeholders, scope of the exercise, alert systems and evacuation protocols. This session focused on improving coordination among the participants to ensure effective emergency response. The next day, a School Safety Practice Programme (SSP) was conducted, where students participated in a rope rescue exercise from skyscrapers, which was led by ASI/GD Tajuanang. The programme aimed to equip participants with practical skills and knowledge to deal with earthquake scenarios. Participants in the two-day exercise included representatives from all different departments and divisions, and a total of 250 students from Mount Horeb Baptist School, Saramati School, Christian School, and Government Senior High School attended the drill.
