Stanley, Idaho – The dramatic rockslide in the Sawtooth Range Mountains captured in the Friday evening movie appears to obliterate a rock climbing landmark in Idaho.

Katie Murphrey and her friend were cruising along Baron Lakes Friday night. At about 8:10 p.m. that evening, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Stanley, Idaho.

The quake, one of several aftershocks of the March 31 earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale, triggered a rock slide down the mountainside that hugged Baron Lakes.

Baron Spire, which SummitPost.org describes as one of Idaho’s toughest rock climbers, was shot down in a landslide. Scroll down to use the interactive scroll bar to view the mountainside before and after the landslide.

“The entire tower fell off with half of the wall’s face,” Murphree wrote in her Facebook post. “It happened around 8:10 PM, so it was very difficult to sleep after that, to say the least!”

She added that there was a camp in the area, but no one was injured.

Baron Spire is also known as Old Smoothie, according to the Mountain Project. The first to reach the summit were Fred Becky, Pete Schönning, and Jack Schwabland in 1949.

The tower was named Old Smoothie because the top is a single granite rock 120 feet high that had almost no cracks.
