4.7 magnitude earthquake hits Southern California

As Los Angeles was waking up on Thursday, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck the area.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck just four miles north of Malibu at 7:28 a.m., but could be felt throughout the Los Angeles area.

After the earthquake hit Tinseltown, celebrities took to social media to react.

“That earthquake was scary,” Paris Hilton wrote on her X page, accompanied by a frowning emoji.

Family friend and celebrity Khloe Kardashian also felt the quake.

“Oh my god, that was a big deal,” the mother of two wrote on the platform.

Model and newlywed Amber Rose has expressed her opinion.

“This was the biggest earthquake I’ve ever experienced in California,” Rose shared with her followers. “Hope everyone is okay!”

Actress and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Garcelle Beauvais told her followers that she felt the same way, too.

“Oh my God, I was still in bed, I felt the earthquake,” she said.

Reporter Lisa Guerrero was close to the source of the earthquake.

“I just felt a big earthquake in Malibu,” she wrote.

In a subsequent message, Guerrero responded with a map showing the areas affected by the natural disaster.

“I live in the middle of this episode,” she said. “No damage has been done here, though. Nothing has fallen off the shelves…plates or art. Everything is fine in my house. I hope everyone is okay!”

Aside from the stars, Los Angeles government officials also took part in the discussion.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass assured residents that the fire department is working on the case.

“A preliminary 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Los Angeles area this morning near Malibu. The Los Angeles Fire Department has been activated to conduct a routine survey of the city to assess any damage. City crews will continue to monitor,” she wrote.

KTLA5 reported that the quake was initially recorded as a magnitude 5.1, but was later downgraded to 4.7.
