WHITES CITY, N.M. — Three earthquakes struck southern New Mexico Saturday, each occurring in a row near Whites City. The first, a magnitude 3.9 quake, struck 37 miles (59 kilometers) south of Whites City at 11:01 a.m. local time. Two smaller quakes followed, a magnitude 2.8 quake at 11:03 a.m. and a magnitude 2.6 quake at 11:04 a.m., sending residents into a panic.

According to the USGS, the epicenters of the three quakes were near the Texas border, near the city of Juarez, Mexico. The depths of the quakes ranged from 2.4 to 6.7 kilometers.
