WHO and TikTok will collaborate on more science-based information on health and wellness

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) and TikTok, a platform for short mobile videos, announced a year-long collaboration aimed at providing people with reliable, science-based health information. This reflects WHO's commitment to using multiple digital communication platforms to increase outreach to people around the world, to promote health literacy, healthy behavior and action in an increasingly digitized world.

Social media platforms can be important sources of information that influence health-related behaviors and decisions. One in four young adults actively seek out news content on social media platforms, including TikTok. We also know that people are increasingly being targeted by misinformation and malicious information on these digital channels. The new collaboration between WHO and TikTok aims to help address these challenges by promoting evidence-based content and encouraging positive health dialogues.

“This collaboration may prove to be a turning point in how platforms can be more socially responsible. The intersection of health and technology presents an opportunity to reach people of all ages, where they are, when they want access,” said Dr Jeremy Farrar, WHO's Chief Scientist. “By working with TikTok and others, we're helping people access credible information and engage in scientific discourse that together help shape a healthier future for all.”

Promoting improved health literacy through influencer engagement

With more than a billion people as part of its global community, TikTok uses its platform and technology to raise health awareness and increase access to trusted information. By breaking down stigmas, sharing impactful stories, providing resources to support those in need, and building strong communities, TikTok aims to positively impact people's well-being.

“We know that millions of people come to TikTok every day to share and find community in all areas of their lives, including their well-being, and we strive to ensure that they can find reliable information on this important topic. That's why today we are pleased to collaborate with the Fides network health influencers from the World Health Organization, to further strengthen this commitment by bringing engaging and authoritative mental wellness content to our community,” said Valiant Richey, Global Head of Trust & Safety and Partnerships, TikTok.

WHO Fides the network, launched in 2020, mobilizes health content creators to counter misinformation and elevate evidence-based content. With a community of over 800 creators reaching 150 million people across multiple platforms, Fides can help improve targeted, credible communications to help people access better health information.

dr. Alain Labrique, WHO Director of Digital Health and Innovation, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Creators who understand the needs of their audience have a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between science and everyday life. This is where WHO can step in to support influencers in providing evidence-based information, ensuring that health conversations on platforms like TikTok are both influential and informed.”

The collaboration will expand efforts around a number of relevant health topics, translating science-based information into relatable and digestible video content, with more support for influencers through TikTok's creator training programs.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
