6 earthquakes were detected in September at Mount Adams

Washington's second-tallest volcano has had six recorded earthquakes, ranging in magnitude from 0.9 to 2.0. Usually, earthquakes occur there once every 2-3 years.

MOUNT ADAMS, Wash. – Six earthquakes were recorded on Mount Adams in September, the most since monitoring began in 1982, according to the USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory.

The agency and the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network recorded six earthquakes at its seismic station located about 7 miles southwest of the volcano's summit, in addition to other stations farther from the volcano. The magnitude of these earthquakes ranged from 0.9 to 2.0 magnitude.

According to the USGS, earthquakes on Mount Adams typically occur once every two to three years.

The USGS reassured: “At this time, there is no indication that the level of earthquake activity is of concern, and the alert level and color code for Mount Adams remains at green/normal.”
