A minor earthquake was recorded in Greenwood County Sunday morning

GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A minor earthquake was recorded Sunday morning in Greenwood County, according to the USGS.

The U.S. Geological Survey and South Carolina Division of Emergency Management said at about 9:06 a.m. Sunday that a 2.12 magnitude ground was detected about 3 kilometers northwest of Coronaka.

The seismic activity was monitored at a depth of about 7.2 kilometers.

According to the USGS, an earthquake of this magnitude is not enough to cause any type of damage to the area, although anyone in the earthquake zone may have experienced some weak ground shaking at the time of the incident.

Sunday morning's earthquake is not the first to be detected in the Koronaka area this week. At around 11pm on Friday, the US Geological Survey detected a 2.16 magnitude earthquake in roughly the same area.

In late September, a 2.71 magnitude earthquake was detected east of Lancaster, near the border between North Carolina and South Carolina.
