The major shockwave will hit the central United States in less than one week, and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) is encouraging residents to join their nearly 38,000 neighbors who have already registered to participate.

Part of a global event, ShakeOut aims to raise awareness of how to best protect oneself during a major earthquake: lie down, cover and wait.
