MANILA, Philippines – A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck Burgos town in Surigao del Norte on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake occurred east of Burgos town in Surigao del Norte and occurred at 9:12 a.m., Phivolcs said in its earthquake bulletin.

It was tectonic in origin and was 19 kilometers deep.

Its magnitude was earlier raised to 4.7 magnitude and its original depth was 10 kilometers.

Phivolcs also said that the reported earthquake strength has been raised to Intensity III in Burgos, Surigao del Norte, from the previous record of Intensity II.

The agency noted that the severity of III can already be felt by many people indoors, especially on the upper floors of buildings.

Meanwhile, his tremor gauge recorded the tremor at Instrumental Intensity II in Surigao City in Surigao del Norte and Hiunindayan in southern Leyte.

The agency added that no damage or aftershocks were expected.
