Iran Accused of Trump Assassination Plot – 3 Men Indicted | BBC News

Three men have been indicted by the US Department of Justice in connection with an alleged plot by Iran to assassinate Donald Trump and other American citizens. The US government says the FBI foiled the plot. None of the accused have been arrested and are believed to be in Iran. Prosecutors say the plan dates back to September 2024, before the presidential election. It has been alleged that an unnamed official of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guards carried out surveillance and planned to kill Mr Trump. Investigators learned they were interviewing Farhad Shakeri, an Afghan national identified by officials as an Iranian government agent, who had been deported from the United States after being jailed on robbery charges. He told investigators that a contact in Iran's Revolutionary Guard ordered him to spy on and eventually kill Mr. Trump, according to the criminal complaint. Authorities have arrested two other men who were recruited to take part in the other murders, including a prominent Iranian-American journalist. Donald Trump has a history of hostility toward Iran and the indictment raises questions about how the indictment might affect his policy toward the country in his new presidency.
