Arthur Goronlian has revealed he could have “died” during a devastating earthquake when he was a child.

The “Dancing with the Stars” judge grew up in Armenia with his mother, Maria, his late father, and his sister, Nezouk.

Arthur and his family were eventually forced to flee their home during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

The choreographer, along with his parents, sister, aunt and cousin, sought asylum in Brussels.

The Brave star has been quite open about the trials and tribulations he has gone through in his life.

Arthur revealed that he survived a devastating earthquake when he was only eight years old.

The Armenia earthquake, also known as the Spitak earthquake, occurred on December 7, 1988.

Speaking on Karl Mullan's 'Phone Truths' programme, Arthur revealed how he 'almost died'.

The 44-year-old said: “It literally destroyed Armenia and it never recovered. I was in school at the time. I will never forget it.”

“I was sitting in the back and we were working and suddenly my teacher saved my life.

“It's weird. She said, 'Oh, can you get anything?' And I said, 'Okay.'

“And I remember walking from the office and I was waving and I remember my friends were saying, ‘Are you drunk?’”

Arthur explained how the library cabinet collapsed onto his desk in the back.

He added: “Everyone started screaming and the earthquake started.”

The father of two spoke of the devastating damage it caused, saying: “It was a huge earthquake. It destroyed half of Armenia, and it was psychological.

“We started jumping out of the windows and everything. Part of the building collapsed and we ran home.

“For two weeks we had to stay outside because we were not allowed to go into the buildings.”

Arthur, who always remains positive, made sure to end the conversation on a high note, saying: “I know I'm talking and everything but there's worse than that.

“I'm here, I'm so happy. I'm so lucky and blessed.”
