Stamford suffers a minor earthquake

STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) – A minor 1.3 magnitude earthquake struck Stamford at 11:55 a.m. Monday, shaking homes and prompting numerous calls to emergency services.

The earthquake comes just days after a series of unexplained incidents in the North Stamford area.

On Thursday, November 14, the Stamford Fire Department responded to dozens of emergency calls reporting explosions in the same area.

Residents reported that they felt strong tremors that shook nearby homes. In response, fire crews from the Stamford Fire Department, Long Ridge Fire Company, and Turn of the River Fire Department were dispatched to investigate.

Despite an extensive search of the area, no evidence of explosions or external damage was found.

The cause of the reported explosions remains unclear, prompting a follow-up investigation.

Then, on Friday morning at 3:45 a.m., additional reports of explosions came in, prompting a secondary investigation.

Again, no immediate sources of concern were identified.

Representatives from Tennessee Gas Pipeline, which operates a major transmission line in the area, and Eversource Gas confirmed that their systems were operating normally, with no irregularities reported.

At this time, local police say the cause of last week's disturbances remains undetermined.
