The US Geological Survey says a small earthquake occurred near Clinton overnight.

The quake, which occurred around 10 p.m. Thursday, had a magnitude of 2.0 and occurred about 1.5 miles northwest of Clinton in Vermilion County.

No one reported any damage, Vermilion County Emergency Management Director Mark O'Hare said.

“It was very weak” and was 4.2 miles deep, he said. O'Hare was unaware of the small earthquake until the media contacted him.
