Karwar, December 01: An earthquake was felt in the Western Ghat district. In Uttar Kannada district, Deviman Ghata of Komata taluk, Rajihosali, Kasaj and Pandala of Sirasi taluk shook for 3 seconds. People are afraid of the earthquake.

In the same year, a hill collapse occurred near the Uluramatha junction of the Siddapur-Komata Road, in Bargi Komata taluk in Virga. The hill collapsed on the road from a distance of about three-quarters of a kilometre. As a result, traffic was blocked.

Also on the same occasion, a hill collapsed on National Highway 66 near Shiroro village in Ankola taluk. 11 people died in the landslide. The bodies of some were found in the Gangavali river near the highway.

Due to the collapse of the hill and a large amount of soil falling into the waters of Gangavali, the water overflowed and entered the neighboring village of Oluvar. This resulted in the complete destruction of six homes. More than 30 homes were partially damaged.
