An earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale hit the English Channel SUSSEX.

The tremor was detected in the sea this morning about 30 miles from Eastbourne.

Barman William Ward was serving coffee on the waterfront from Bistro Pier when he saw the bottles shake.

The 21-year-old told The Sun Online, “It was really weird, I was the oldest coffee at the time when I noticed the fridge with the wine bottles was shaking.”

“The glass was shaking, it was like a jurassic garden.

“I couldn’t actually feel it myself, but it lasted for about 10 to 15 seconds and assumed it must have been an earthquake.

“Luckily it wasn’t more dangerous because I was crouched on the waterfront in the cafe.”

The British Geological Survey (BGS) has also received a number of reports from stunned residents.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake was recorded at 3.0 on the Richter scale.

This means that it is considered a slight tremor but it can still be felt and is causing minor damage.

The depth of the earthquake was 7 kilometers underground and was recorded at the famous Camper Sands resort 34 kilometers away.

It was also felt in Lewis 72 kilometers away and was recorded all the way in London, which is 121 kilometers away.

It is not the first time that an earthquake has hit Sussex this year after a tremor was recorded in Gatwick on May 4.

The world’s richest scale is used to measure the strength of earthquakes.

Britain has been hit by a series of earthquakes this year – nine recorded in January alone.

According to the BGS, people in the UK feel every year between 20 to 30 earthquakes, with a few hundred smaller earthquakes recorded by sensitive devices.

The UK experiences a magnitude 5 earthquake – which can damage buildings – approximately every 10 to 20 years.

The largest known British earthquake occurred in the North Sea near Dogger Bank in 1931, and had a magnitude of 6.1.

Despite being 60 miles offshore, it was still strong enough to cause minor damage to buildings on the east coast of England.

But the most damaging earthquake in the United Kingdom was in the Colchester area in 1884 when many people were killed and the shocks were felt as far away as the Houses of Parliament.
