The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it believed the explosion occurred in northwestern Syria, near the city of Tartous.

The Observatory claimed that Israel targeted an ammunition depot in the area.

They revealed how the explosion that shook the ground was measured as a 3.0 magnitude earthquake on nearby seismic sensors.

Dozens of other Israeli attacks were seen across Syria on Sunday, with warplanes reportedly launching precision strikes on weapons depots.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Israel targeted a series of sites including air defense units and “surface-to-surface missile depots.”

Last night's explosions were described as “the most violent strikes in the Syrian coastal region since the strikes began in 2012.”

It comes just days after more Israeli strikes on Syrian air bases lit up the night sky following the fall of the brutal Assad regime.

Video footage on Monday night showed a stunning series of strikes on the Qamishli air base in the northeast of the country, according to Sky News.

Sources told Reuters that the ammunition depot was hit by Israeli bombing.

The attack continued for at least 30 minutes, as the sound of shells and explosive weapons echoed throughout the area.

Since Assad fled to Russia after Syrian rebels overthrew his government, Israel has struck military targets inside the country.

Military aircraft and ships belonging to the ousted President al-Assad bombed 300 air strikes on Syria in just one week.

The Israeli army said it was carrying out the attacks to prevent Assad's weapons and military equipment from falling into the hands of terrorists.

Iran – a long-time ally of Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon – condemned “repeated Israeli violations of Syrian infrastructure” and the seizure of Syrian territory.

Qatar also opposed the Israeli action, saying it was unacceptable for them to “exploit” the situation in Syria and violate its sovereignty.

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, described the military operations as “limited and temporary,” and said they were necessary to confront direct security threats.

He added: “Israel does not interfere in the internal Syrian conflict.”

Meanwhile, there were reports of Israeli tanks being spotted “less than 20 miles” from Damascus after entering Syria for the first time in 50 years.

After Syrian rebels overthrew tyrant President Assad, Israeli forces seized the Golan Heights and other defensive positions.

Netanyahu said the “temporary” measure aims to “ensure that no hostile force is stationed near Israel’s borders.”

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said that the Israeli invasion was “to prevent the October 7 scenario.”
