A delegation from Antioch visits Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and requests support for reconstruction efforts after the devastation caused by the earthquake – Grenaththodox Archdiocese of America

Istanbul – A delegation representing the Greek Orthodox community in Antioch visited His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew today to express their deep gratitude to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox Diocese of America for their steadfast support for earthquake survivors in the region. The delegation also requested more assistance to rebuild Orthodox churches destroyed by the disaster.

The delegation was headed by two clerics, Reverend Dimitrios Dogum and Reverend Jean Deluller, along with the head of the Antiochian Greek Orthodox community, Mr. Fadi Horijel, and additional representatives.

In the Antioch area, every Greek Orthodox church was reduced to ruins, leaving the faithful without holy places of worship. In the absence of functioning churches, parishioners gathered in private homes to meet their spiritual needs. In stark contrast, Roman Catholic churches in the area have already been rebuilt following the devastating 2023 earthquake.

His Eminence Bishop Alpedophoros of America, currently in the Ecumenical Patriarchate, expressed his support for the discussions, stressing the diocese’s commitment to providing assistance and solidarity. He emphasized the church's broader dedication to rebuilding the physical and spiritual lives of the believers in Antioch.
