In 1912, industrialist Andrew Carnegie supported former President Theodore Roosevelt's anti-monopoly view in exchange for plans to dissolve the trust laid out by today's President Taft in his testimony before the Stanley Commission.

In 1919, UP reporter John Graudens was arrested by German forces while on his way to the scene of an attack in Berlin, and was later released.

In 1919, US President Woodrow Wilson, British Prime Minister David Lloyd George, French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau, and Italian Prime Minister Vittorio Orlando met in Paris in what became the first of more than 100 meetings of the so-called Big Four. These allies came together to reach peace terms that ended World War I and created the League of Nations.

In 1932, Hattie Carraway, Democrat from Arkansas, became the first woman elected to a full term as a U.S. Senator.

In 1943, the US wartime Office of Price Administration said that standard World War II Frankfurt sausages would be replaced with “victory sausages” consisting of a mixture of meat and soy meal.
