The strength of Sunday's earthquake decreased to 3.5 degrees

Update, 1:13 p.m.: The U.S. Geological Service downgraded Sunday morning's earthquake around 12:30 p.m. from a magnitude of 3.7 to a magnitude of 3.5. The reported epicenter also shifted slightly south, from being closer to Concord to being within 1.2 miles of Pleasant Hill.

ORIGINAL STORY: A 3.7-magnitude earthquake shook Berkeley and the East Bay on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the quake was just south of Concord, according to the USGS.

The quake was recorded at 8:49 a.m. Pacific time, at a depth of 8.8 miles. Initially, the quake's magnitude was reported as 3.9, but that was lowered after a USGS review.

Earthquakes are a good reminder to prepare. The City of Berkeley provides guidance on what to do before, during and after an earthquake. Free disaster preparedness and basic first aid training Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training classes, funded by FEMA and administered by the Berkeley Fire Department, begin this month and will be repeated later in the year.
