A 4.1 magnitude earthquake strikes Alaska

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck Alaska on Thursday afternoon.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake occurred around 3:24 p.m. Pacific time in the Chugach Mountains near the city of Valdez, which has a population of about 3,900 people. The epicenter of the earthquake was east of Anchorage.

The US Geological Survey reported that the quake occurred at a depth of about 2.5 miles.

Although a 4.1 magnitude earthquake is considered relatively moderate on the Richter scale, an earthquake of this size is often felt and can cause small damage.

So far, 30 people have reported feeling the quake to the USGS.
