A cluster of earthquakes was felt near Snoqualmie, WA

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Seismologists counted nine earthquakes in the Washington Cascades, in addition to the 3.5 magnitude event that occurred near North Bend on Monday.

The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) recorded a 3.5 magnitude earthquake four miles northeast of Fall City at about 1:35 p.m. Monday. The quake was reported at a depth of about 10 miles. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), it was felt by 1,290 people.

The next day, PNSN counted a total of nine smaller earthquakes occurring in the same general area.

Seismologists call this a “mainshock and aftershock sequence,” saying there was one foreshock before the magnitude 3.5 event.

What we don't know:

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

While there are many variables involved, geologists say damage usually doesn't occur until an earthquake reaches a magnitude greater than 4 or 5.
