Santorini: Schools were closed while the Greek “Instagram” tremors shake

The Greek island is shaken in Santorini by dozens of tremors, prompting the authorities to close schools and airlines to announce additional flights on Monday to help people leave the famous tourist destination.

Over the past four days, more than 200 earthquakes have been registered between Santorini and Amorgos in the Aegean Sea, with the most powerful size of 4.9.

The authorities said that the current seismic activity is due to tectonic movements that do not appear linked to volcanic activity. Likewise, the increase in seismic activity in 2011 and 2012 did not lead to any eruption.
