Professor Marita College comments on the last earthquakes in Renault

Marita, Ohio (WTAP) –

Tig Gotam, associate professor of petroleum engineering and geology at Marita College, discussed how earthquakes were struck near Renault, Ohio, was not an unusual event.

“We are not in a seismic area active,” Gotam said. “It is not unusual to happen. Earthquakes are in the inactive areas of seismic as common and they are very small earthquakes.

According to the United States geological survey (USGS), earthquakes are measured in size and concluded that any size reaches above 4 or 5 can be sufficient to “damage the damage.”

Usgs reported the first earthquake near Renault 2.2.

The second earthquake was on February 3 in Renault slightly higher with 2.8 in size.

“There are many reasons that earthquake can occur,” Gotam added. “It is very difficult without any study. It can occur anywhere, even in areas where seismic is not active.”

Gotam added that the last cold weather that struck the Ohio Valley has no connection.

“The cold weather has nothing to do with earthquakes. These earthquakes occur because of the movement on the depth of the earth. There is no known weather component that occurred in the depth.”

Gotam confirms that the strongest earthquakes are not expected in the area.

“We don't expect larger earthquakes or high -sized earthquakes that can harm in this field.”
