(CNS): A very brief earthquake more than 200 km off the southwestern coast of Grand Kayman in very deep waters led to a tsunami on Saturday. Although more than 7.6 was registered, it was under some deepest water in the world and far away due to the lack of any problems in the Kayman Islands. While there were reports about some people feeling slightly trembling, no damage was reported.

This was followed by a shake of about 4.3 in size after Friday afternoon, which was closer to about 63 km, but this earthquake did not cause any harm as well.

Both earthquakes remind the residents that we are close to the Kayman Trench, a dangerous rift line, and we are still at risk of tremors. While officials often cause a tsunami threat, due to the very deep water around us, the risk of such a destructive wave that strikes the islands is small.

Speaking of Radio Kayman on Monday, the director of the National Weather Service, Cinws, explained John Tips, the movement of tectonic paintings in this region and why we don't see the big tsunami after earthquakes – although it is not impossible because the conditions cannot always be predicted.
