5.3 magnitude earthquake shakes Bali, earthquake was felt in E Java

TEMPO.CO, JUMBER – People felt an earthquake of 5.3 magnitude hit Jemberana, Bali on Saturday 14th August at 15:12 local time until Jember, East Java.

The epicenter was at 9.48 S latitude and 113.98 East longitude, or 143 km southwest of Jimbrana in Bali, at a depth of 56 km. There was no possibility of a tsunami.

A resident of Jember said that feeling the earthquake there, “even my child and I immediately got out of the house when the bed was shaking,” said Anisa, who lives in Calliwatts, Jember, adding that her neighbors also fled their homes. Where they felt shivers.

The head of the geophysics station at BMKG meteorology agency in Karangkats Malang, Mosriban, said that the Indian Ocean region in South Java was hit by a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 and it was updated to 5.0 degrees.

Mussriban explained that based on the epicenter and low center, it was a shallow earthquake caused by plate subduction activity between India and Australia.

The earthquake was felt in Jember, Karangkats, Banyuwangi, Lombok Barat, Denpasar and Kota Selatan at different levels.

No damage was reported from the earthquake, and there is no possibility of a tsunami.
