AFAD delivers new homes for the earthquake victims in KahramanMaraş

In a promising update for the people of Kahramanmaraş, south of Türkiye, Chairman of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), Ali Hamza Pehlivan, has been completed and delivered 34,600 independent housing units, including those in rural areas of the survivors of the earthquake.

Speaking of continuous recovery efforts, Pehlivan highlighted the cooperative efforts of the Turkish government, NGOs (NGOs) and local societies. He praised the solid unit that appeared since the destructive earthquakes on February 6, noting that this solidarity was a key to treating the disaster.

Through AFAD coordination, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and multiple construction agencies, more than 200,000 units have been built across the affected areas, with approximately 150 of them intended for workplaces.

Pehlivan also emphasized that these housing projects are not only focused on providing a safe shelter, but also include basic infrastructure such as roads, social facilities and livestock barns, which are vital to the livelihoods of the countryside.

In addition to housing recovery, positive reactions from the displaced citizens were a source of encouragement, indicating that efforts were well received.
