Size of 6.1 earthquake shakes Chile, with no reports on injuries or damage

Santiago, Chile (AP) – an earthquake hit 6.1 north of Chile on Thursday, but there were no immediate reports on losses or damage. There was no tsunami warning in the South American state exposed to the earthquake.

The earthquake center was 104 km (64 miles) southwest of San Pedro de Atakama, a small town on the edge of the northern desert near the borders of Chile with Bolivia, according to the United States's geological survey.
