Cal Poly Humboldt hosts the general forum on earthquake lessons and tsunami lessons

ARCATA, California – The 7.0 Northern Coast earthquake hit December 5, 2024, hit societies and let local experts think about what can be done differently.

Professors at Cal Poly Humboldt are hosting a public forum, “Evening Discussion on Local earthquake and tsunami risks”, to review that day and provide advice on what has been learned.

The presentation and discussion feature a group of Cal Poly Humboldt, National Weather Service, the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work group, and the California Geological Survey. Topics include the cause of earthquakes frequently in our area, the effectiveness of the earthquake warning and tsunami systems, and lessons learned from the December 5 event to prepare better for future seismic events.

“We will go to details about the tsunami maps of danger, so people really understand whether they live or work in a tsunami danger, then finally a kind of collapse what happened and why people got this warning on December 5 of this tsunami who were in danger of tsunami and a type of table on that.”

The forum is free and open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend. All ages are welcome, adults must accompany the palace.

It will be held on Wednesday, 12 March, from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Judwin Forum (NHe 102) in Cal Polly Humoult. The hybrid event will be hosted personally and broadcast directly via Zoom for remote participants. Registration will also be available for those who register.
