Myanmar's earthquake's death jumped to more than 1,600 with research efforts continued

A partial stop was announced unilaterally to facilitate earthquake's relief efforts on Saturday by the national unity government in Myanmar, which coordinates the popular struggle against the ruling army. The death of the country from the disaster increased to 1644.

This number was a sharp rise compared to 1002, which was announced just hours ago, highlighting the difficulty of confirming the losses on a large -scale area and the possibility that the numbers will continue to grow from the 7.7 earthquake on Friday. The number of injured people increased to 3408, while the missing number increased to 139.

In the neighboring Thailand, the death toll rose to 17. Many places in the north have been damaged, but the only losses were reported in Bangkok.

Among the death toll, 10 were killed in the famous building near the famous Chatoshak market that collapsed, while the rest were killed in seven other sites. The Bangkok authorities said 83 people were missing.

On Saturday, more heavy equipment was brought to move tons of rubble, but hope was fading between friends and relatives.

“I was praying because they had survived, but when I got here and saw the ruin-where could they be?

In Myanmar, rescue efforts are focused so far on the major cities in Mandalay, City 2 in the country, and NayPyitaw, the capital.

But although the teams and equipment have been transferred from other countries, they hinder the damage to the airports. The satellite images of Planet Labs PBC, which was analyzed by the Associated Press, indicates that the earthquake overthrew the air traffic control tower at Nepyto International Airport as if it were lucky from its base.

It was not immediately clear whether there were any victims of its collapse.

“With more than 18 million people living in the affected earthquake area, they expect the death toll will increase.

“Search and rescue are still continuing,” she said. “It is very difficult now to check the health of any character, and we know that it will continue to increase and (that) many of these 18 million people are now without safe shelter, access to clean water, and reliable health care.”

Myanmar, also known as Burma, is in the labor of a long and bloody civil war, and is already responsible for a huge humanitarian crisis. It makes the movement throughout the country difficult and dangerous, making relief efforts and raising fears that the death toll still can rise.

On Saturday night, the national unity government in Myanmar, which coordinates the popular struggle against the ruling army, announced partial ceasefire to facilitate earthquake relief efforts. He said in a statement that its armed wing, the Popular Defense Force will carry out a two -week pause in the offensive military operations that start on Sunday in the areas affected by the earthquake.

She said that she will “cooperate with United Nations and NACA organizations to ensure security and transportation and the establishment of temporary rescue and rescue camps”, in its control areas.

In the middle of the day on Friday, the earthquake with a marina center is not far from Mandalay, followed by many wireless tremors, including a 6.4 size. The buildings were sent in many areas that fall on the ground, the roads that bind, causing bridges to collapse and exploded.

In the capital Naybyidaw, sets on Saturday worked to repair damaged roads, while electricity, phone and Internet services remained in most of the city. The earthquake dropped many buildings, including multiple units that include government civil service employees, but this section of the city was banned by the authorities on Saturday.

The government said that more than 1590 homes were damaged in the Mandalay area, the earthquake center.

Destruction in Thailand

In the neighboring Thailand, the death toll increased to 10. The earthquake shook the Greater Bangkok region, home to about 17 million people, and other parts of the country. Many places in the north have been damaged, but the only losses were reported in Bangkok, the capital.

Nine deaths were at the tall collapse location under the construction near the Bangkok Market in Chatoshak, while 78 people were still missing.

On Saturday, more heavy equipment was brought to move tons of rubble, but hope was fading between friends and family members in the missing people who will be found alive.

“I was praying because they had survived, but when I got here and saw the ruin-where could they be? At what angle? Are they still alive? I still pray because the six are alive.”

“I can't accept this. When I see this, I cannot accept this. I am an intimate friend there too,” she said.

Waenphet Panta said she had not heard from her daughter Kanlaynee since a phone call about an hour before the earthquake. Her friend Kanlaynee told that he was working in the building on Friday.

“I pray my daughter safe, and she survived and that she is in the hospital,” said Kanliani's father sitting next to him.

The Thai authorities said that the earthquake and subsequent tremors felt in most of the country's provinces. Many places in the north have reported damage to residential buildings, hospitals and temples, including in Xiang May, but the only losses were reported in Bangkok

International aid arrives when the rescuers are asked

After more than 24 hours of desperate search, many stressful rescue workers ask for some satisfaction. “We have been here since last night. We didn't sleep. More help here.” “We have enough workforce but we don't have enough cars. We transport the dead bodies with light trucks. About 10-20 bodies in one light truck.”

In a country, the previous governments were sometimes slow to accept external aid, Main Ong Hinging said Myanmar is ready to accept external aid.

China and Russia, the largest arms suppliers to the Myanmar army, were among the first to take with humanitarian aid.

China said it had sent more than 135 rescue personnel and experts as well as supplies such as medical groups and generators and pledged about $ 13.8 million of humanitarian aid. The Russian Emergency Ministry said it flew in 120 rescue and supplies.

India also sent a search and rescue team and a medical team, while Malaysia said it would send 50 people on Sunday.

South Korea said it would save $ 2 million of humanitarian aid through international organizations, and the United Nations allocating $ 5 million to start relief efforts.

Hong Kong has sent a group of 51 search and rescue personnel to help the earthquake's relief efforts in Myanmar. The group includes firefighters and ambulance staff as well as search and rescue dogs, among others.

President Trump said on Friday that the United States will help in responding.

Mr. Trump told correspondents at the Oval Office that he had already spoken to the country's officials and “he is a real bad, and we will help.”

However, some experts were concerned about this effort given the deep discounts of his administration in external aid.

A natural disaster on the top of the civil war

The Military in Myanmar seized power from the elected government in Aung San Suu Ki in February 2021, and is now participating in a bloody civil war with firm militias and its forms of newly formed democracy.

The military forces continued their attacks even after the earthquake, with three air strikes in the northern state of Cayenne, also called the state of Karenini, and South Chan – both of them from Mandalay's border state.

EUBANK told Associated Press that in the area where he was working, most villages were already destroyed by the army, so the earthquake had no significant impact.

He said: “People were in the woods and I was in the woods when the earthquake struck – it was strong, but the trees have just moved, this was for us, so we had no direct impact other than that the Burma army continued the attack, even after the earthquake.”

In Northon Chan, May Rocco, the editor of a militia member, may God bless him and grant him peace, said that an air strike on a village controlled by the rebels just minutes after the killing of seven militia members and wrapped five buildings, including a school.

Government forces have lost control of many Myanmar, and many incredibly dangerous places or impossible for relief groups to reach them. More than 3 million people were descended due to the fighting and about 20 million in need, according to the United Nations.

“Although a complete picture of the damage is still emerging, most of us have not seen such destruction,” said Haider Yakb, a country manager in Myanmar to the NGO plan, from Yangon.

“Undoubtedly, the human needs will be great.”
