The Associated Press reported that a strong earthquake of 7.1 compressed size near Tonga, which led to a preliminary warning to Tsuname, which was later withdrawn to the Pacific Island nation.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred about 100 km (62 miles) northeast of the main island in Tonga in the early hours of Monday (local time). The Tsunami Warning Center issued an alert, warning that dangerous waves can affect the coasts 300 km (185 miles) from the mile center.

“The dangerous tsunami of this earthquake can be 300 km (186 miles) from the earthquake center along the coast of Tonga,” said the American tsunami warning system.

There were no immediate reports on damage.

The German Research Center for Earth Sciences said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km.
