The Myanmar earth

CNN –
Rescuers are desperately searching for the survivors for more than three days after it hit a strong earthquake of 7.7 Myanmar, and the buildings fall in distant places such as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and send tremors through nearby Chinese provinces.
It is the first 72 hours after an earthquake on a large scale as a “golden” window to reach the alive -buried victims under the rubble – after that period, the chances of staying without a source of water are diminished quickly.
The authorities say that at least 1700 people were now confirmed in Myanmar after it was the largest earthquake to hit the country that was transferred to the war more than a century ago. Experts are afraid that the real number of deaths may take weeks to appear.
Wide -scale damage was reported after the earthquake caused the collapse of bridges and buildings, including in Bangkok, where the authorities are trying to liberate dozens that are believed to be besieged under the ruins of a tall spread.
The Epicalter Center in the Central Sagaing area in Myanmar was registered near the former royal capital Mandalay, home to about 1.5 million people, in addition to multiple historical compounds and palaces. Those who are at the earthquake center are largely severed after the collapse of a major bridge on the Irawadi River in the country, according to local officials.
Meanwhile, the external and international rescue teams began reaching Myanmar after the military council issued a rare appeal to help.
On Friday, the earthquake was the most bloody natural disaster to strike the country for years and comes at a time when Myanmar was repeated from a civil war. Since 2021, telecommunications networks, the health infrastructure that was beaten and left millions without food and sufficient shelter.
This is what we know.
At least 1700 people and about 3,400 people died, according to the country's military government. Nearly 300 others are missing.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that the final number of death could exceed 10,000 people, based on early modeling.
In Bangkok, hundreds of miles from the earthquake center, at least 18 people were killed. Among them, 11 died when a building collapsed under construction in minutes, leaving dozens trapped under the rubble. The authorities said that seven deaths were reported elsewhere in the capital.
Search and rescue operations are continuing in Bangkok for about 80 people who remain missing, as families gather at the tall collapse site for any news about their loved ones.
“I called my besieged husband inside countless times. Maybe 100 to 200 calls a day, but none of them passed,” Kaneka Nomseri told Reuters.
The earthquake was the strongest in Myanmar beating since it was shaken by Temblor 7.9 Festivals in 1912 in Tongji, a city also in central Myanmar.
The final tremors, the largest of them from a trep of 6.7, continued on Friday, which lasted throughout the weekend, according to USGs.
The deadly earthquake strikes Myanmar, Thailand and China
The level of destruction on the country has not been seen “more than a century ago in Asia”, according to an official of the International Red Cross and Red Cross Communities (IFRC).
Mary Manrik, the coordinator of the Myanmar program in IFRC, said that the effect of the earthquake “during the next few weeks”, indicating that the numbers of deaths and injuries are likely to rise because some people are still trapped under the collapsed buildings.
Speaking from Yangon, Manrik added that there was now just a “small window of opportunities” to reach these people.
“She was very strong and very fast,” recalls a woman in Mandalay. She said that part of a wall collapsed on the grandmother of the woman who was sitting nearby, and buried her legs in the rubble and debris.
A former city lawyer told CNN that three members of his wife's family were killed in the earthquake.
One man said that the earthquake also broke some of the city's mosques, which were busy with the castles who attended Friday prayers.
Since the earthquake hit, communication has been difficult with people in Myanmar, including Mandalay – which makes it difficult to assess the true range of damage.
The children, a non -governmental organization, saved aid in the affected areas, transferred the father’s testimony in the eastern province of Shan, which was badly struck.
He said: “Children and the elderly suffered from extreme rotor and fainting … The earthquake was incredibly strong, and we were all shocking. Young children cried and shouting in fear,” adding that there is now an urgent need for food and water.
Enoh Bridge in Mandalay, Myanmar. Maxar techniques
In the south, the towns of Nyaungshwe, Kalaw and Pinlaung are among the most difficult strikes by the earthquake, according to the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs Coordination (OCA).
The agency said on Saturday: “Thousands of people spend nights in the streets or (in) open spaces due to damage and destruction of homes or for fear of earthquakes.”
In Naibidawo, the country's military capital, 160 miles (257 km) south of Mandalay, a three -storey hospital collapsed in part, besieging patients under the rubble, Chinese media reported. About 40 hours after the earthquake, the China rescue team saved one person from the debris.
As of Sunday, it has been reported that nearly 1700 homes, 670 monastery, 60 schools and three bridges have been damaged, and there are concerns about the structural safety of the large dams, Osha said. I also noticed damage to hospitals, universities, historical and public buildings.
The bridge was destroyed over the great Irrawaddy River near Mandalay, where almost every section of the bridge collapsed or partially in the water.
“The old epic bridge has been destroyed and the new bridge is no longer used, making it difficult for help to come from other cities,” Bo Bo, a teacher in the city of Saging, told CNN.
The teams saved 36 survivors of collapsed buildings across the epic area as of Sunday.
“The bodies are still besieged under the debris, the ones that have been recovered remain unprocessed, and spread an unpleasant smell that pose serious health risks,” read a statement from the Hluttaw unit, anti -regime power.
Many countries have published resources to help with rescue and relief operations after Myanmar's military leaders, who usually hate foreign participation, requested help.
The international football broadcaster in China said that a team from China was the first to reach the largest city of Yangon in Myanmar on Saturday.
The country's Ministry of Emergency Ministry said that Russia was quick to follow China in spreading its team of specialists, including dog teams, anesthesiologists and psychologists.
The United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia will donate aids with a total of $ 20 million in humanitarian assistance.
US President Donald Trump described the earthquake as “terrible” and pledged that the United States would also send assistance. India, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong also announced that it would send help.
The United Nations has announced an immediate pledge of $ 5 million as aid to Myanmar and said it mobilized the teams for relief efforts.
However, the rescue teams face a difficult task after the infrastructure was hurt due to the civil war in Myanmar due to the earthquake. It is also possible that efforts are complicated because the earthquake's impact area includes areas that have witnessed severe fighting since the Military Council seized power in 2021 and where the competing administrations – the military government and rebel groups – operate separately.
Relief groups say that shattered roads, rubble and communications hinder relief efforts, according to the United Nations. Usha said on Saturday that the severe shortage of medical supplies – including shock groups, blood bags, anesthesia and auxiliary devices – may complicate relief efforts.
Health workers struggle on the ground for the field of the injured currents, according to Ocha.
IFRC has launched an emergency call to 100 million Swiss francs ($ 113 million) to provide relief in Myanmar over the next two years.
“The need for support is urgent,” Alexander Matthew, the regional director of the Pacific Ocean at IFRC. “This is not just a disaster; it is a complicated humanitarian crisis on the current weaknesses.”
Myanmar on an active earthquake belt, but many breasts usually happen in populated areas, not the cities of such affected on Friday.
The USGS and German Earth Science Center said the earthquake was 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). Shallow earthquakes tend to cause more damage.
The Geological scientist told CNN that the energy issued by the earthquake was the equivalent of 334 atomic bombs.
Scientists say that the earthquake occurred along the mistake of the epic, which extends to the north and south via Myanmar, and that it is a “sliding” error, when two mostly horizontal tecton paintings turn.
Brian Babti, the earthquake with British geological survey, said that the rupture was transferred to the ground five meters (16.4 feet) about a minute distance in some areas.
He said that most buildings in the area are made of wood or construction of unprotected bricks, they are very vulnerable to damage.
