7.4 Size earthquake strikes off the coast of Chile and Argentina

The US Geological Survey said the 7.4 -sized earthquake hit the southern coast of Chile and Argentina on Friday. The earthquake led to a tsunami warning, but it was later canceled, and there were no reports of damage or victims.

The earthquake was hit at 8:58 am local time and followed by at least dozens of tremors. The Chilean authorities issued an alert to evacuate the entire coastal department of the Magilan Strait, in the far south of the country, as a preventive measure.

“We call for the evacuation of the coastal line throughout the Magalanis region,” the President of Chilean Gabriel Borik posted on social media after alerting the emergency service, which also ordered the evacuation in the coming areas.

The photos and videos on social media showed that people are quietly disturbing the sirens in the background, Reuters said.
