In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, which amounted to 7.7 people, Myanmar struck March 28, 2025, Project Hope has published the emergency response team quickly to meet the immediate health and humanitarian needs. With the killing of more than 3725 people, at least 17 million people – 9 million of them were severely affected – the earthquake has exacerbated a already distinctive humanitarian crisis in Myanmar.

As part of its continuous response, the Project Hope works with reliable local partners to provide life rescue assistance. To date, Project Hope has:

Water, sanitation and hygiene support (WASH) was delivered by distributing more than 1,000 cleaning groups, building 20 emergency toilets, and installing two mobile water filtration systems, each provides 5,000 liters per hour of clean water. It is managed by mobile medical units in Nyaungshwe and Southern Shan, where the difference has been treated so far, about 1,000 patients in only four weeks, with additional units to launch them in Sagaing this month. These units guarantee access to basic medical consultations, treatment, health education, and referral services, while monitoring the outbreak of diseases during the critical early recovery phase. Salaries were provided to local health workers to provide psychological first aid (PFA) within their societies in southern Shan to meet the mental health needs of the survivors. It was in cooperation with the World Health Organization and local civil society organizations to buy and distribute beds, medicines, hygiene groups and additional non -food elements in the Mandalay region.

“After one month of the earthquake, societies still face a severe shortage of medical supplies, food, clean water and safe shelter,” said Arlan Fuller, the director of emergency response and preparedness in the Hope project. “Thousands are still attempts and live in temporary tents, which will provide insufficient shelter with the seasonal wind season quickly. This will undoubtedly lead to an increase in the diseases that the water transfers and transports it, and the tension of already local health systems to respond and the desperate need for medicine, medical equipment, clean deliveries, and continuous mental health support.”
