A tsunami warning was released in Greece after a 6.1 earthquake from Crete.

The earthquake occurred 55 km (34 miles) north of the island, at a depth of 37 km (23 miles) below the sea floor. The shaking was also reported in Israel, parts of Egypt and Turkey.

Greece's emergency services issued a precautionary warning on Thursday morning, and advised the residents to stay away from the coastal areas.

Witnesses described all over Crete as waking up by the earthquake, which shook and shake the buildings for a few minutes.

No injuries were reported, but rescue sets were sent by the authorities to the island as a preventive measure.

A landslide was also reported in TERTSA, which led to the crash of the rocks on the ground.

“Fortunately, initial reports indicate that because of its great depth (of the earthquake), there was no great harm,” said Greek Civil Protection Minister Ioannis Kefalogiannis.

Greece is located on the main rift lines and tests frequent seismic activity.

In February, the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel advice for Santorini, Anafi, iOS and Amorgos after an increase in tremors.
