The death of the Afghanistan earthquake rises to 2,205

September 4 (UPI) – The Sunday earthquake in eastern Afghanistan is now killed 2,205 people and was wounded 3640, according to a Taliban government spokesman.

The American Geological Survey reported that the 6.0 earthquake center, which struck around midnight Sunday, was about 17 miles east of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar Province.

Hamadallah Firat, a Taliban spokesman, said on X. The search and rescue efforts continue.

“The tents were installed for the displaced families in multiple locations, and the organized distribution of primary and urgent humanitarian assistance is currently underway,” he said.

Usgs said that the final tremors were struck amid the rescue efforts, including an earthquake of 5.2 on Tuesday, about 20 miles northeast of Jalalabad.

About 8,000 homes were destroyed in Nangarhar Province.

The Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Sharafat Zaman Ammar, published pictures of children with social media on Tuesday from the Nangarhar Hospital for District in Jalalad. He said that the children “lie together on a family who do not have parents or relatives, and they bear these harsh moments of life in pain, without a father and mother.”
