Work complaints submitted against 10 BPO companies after the Sibu earthquake

An organization representing workers of the use of external sources of commercial operations (BPO) accused 10 BPO companies of violating professional labor and safety laws in the wake of the 6.9 earthquake that struck CIPO on September 30.

Submit an official complaint

BPO (BIN) -CEBU network members filed an official complaint to the Ministry of Labor and Employment in the center of VILEAS (DOLE -7) on October 2.

They claimed that the employees were forced to report despite the appeal to determine the priorities of their safety and attend their families in the wake of the earthquake.

“There have been multiple incidents of employees who insist on not reporting notifications to notifications, administrative penalties, and the loss of presence incentives and benefits, among many revenge measures,” the group said in a statement.

Bien was founded in 2013, an association for workers accredited by Dole representing BPO employees, with a country's membership of at least 4000.

Industry response

Buddy Villasis, CEO of CEBU IT/BPM ((IT Department/Business Operations) refused, saying that he has not yet reviewed the advantages of the case and determined the companies concerned.

CIB.O is the leading industry group that represents the BPM IT sector in CEBU and Central Visayas.

John Kyle Eno, a Bien-CEBU spokesman, said that Dole-7 has identified a dialogue with BPO officials concerned on October 6, Monday.

He said that the complaint is based on their reports received by the group, as well as that published on social media.

Suminated accidents

He added that one of the companies told its agents to continue making calls from customers instead of evacuating during the earthquake.

ENERO claimed that another company banned the building exits to prevent employees from evacuating. He added that the workers were later asked to sign a document that prevents them from sharing their experience on social media.

ENERO also noted that the employees who were guided were directed to return to their work stations after two hours, following assurances that the buildings had been announced safe after the inspection.

Safety inspections

He asked about the validity of the inspections, saying that it is unlikely to be completed so quickly, given that the buildings of Cebu IT Park are all skyscrapers.

Inno said that the group filed the complaint to demand a dole to investigate what he described as a practice to determine the priorities of companies' interests on employee welfare, and pressure for policy reforms.

The group also urged the approval of 10 BPO companies according to the law.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
