A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck near the Philippines was followed by a second powerful earthquake on Friday, October 10, killing at least seven and damaging buildings, authorities said.

The initial earthquake struck an offshore area of ​​Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippines at 9:45 a.m. local time on October 10. Following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake, tsunami warnings were issued for the surrounding coast, but were later cancelled.

Ednar Dayangerang, a civil defense official, said at least seven people were killed in the quakes. Civil defense official Carlo Puerto told Reuters that at least two people died in the city of Mati, which is close to the epicenter of the quake. In Manai, there were early reports of damage to buildings and bridges.
