Cebu earthquake death toll now 75 —OCD

The reported death toll from the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Buju City, Cebu last September 30 has risen to 75, the Office of Civil Defense said on Monday.

“In Cebu, there are still 75 victims there. We still have close to 600 infections,” OCD Deputy Director Assistant Secretary Bernardo Alejandro IV said in an interview with First News for GMA Integrated News.

He added that the agency would check whether there were more casualties reported from the 6.0-magnitude aftershock that occurred earlier at 1:06 a.m.

According to Alejandro, aftershocks from the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in the city of Bogo reached nearly 11,000.

A total of 722,919 people or 201,245 families in Central Visayas were affected by the earthquake, according to a report issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of Saturday.

Of the total affected population, 3,538 people or 815 families were staying in evacuation centers while 5,280 people or 1,106 families had sought refuge elsewhere.

A total of 79,959 homes were damaged – 74,616 partially and 5,343 completely. 773 infrastructure worth 6,765,661 pesos were also damaged.

The entire province of Cebu is under a state of disaster.
