British Columbia's Great Earthquake Drill is back!
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Prepare to respond when an earthquake strikes. The Greater British Columbia ShakeOut (ShakeOut BC) event will encourage participants to practice what to do when they receive an earthquake alert or feel shaking. Join us at the BC Legislature on October 16 to participate in “Pull, Cover and Hold” during Canada's largest earthquake drill.

ShakeOut BC, a British Columbia Earthquake Alliance (BCEA) event held annually since 2011, is an opportunity to practice how to stay safe in an earthquake. By practicing the “drop, dive, and hold” response, participants create muscle memory, which helps them respond quickly and move to safety during a real earthquake.
Earthquakes can cause the ground to shake violently very soon after they start. Alerts from the National Earthquake Early Warning System can only provide seconds to tens of seconds to respond, so it is important to take immediate action.
Members of the media are invited to join representatives of the ShakeOut BC Organizing Committee, BCEA, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), British Columbia Legislative Assembly and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) for the event. There will be an information booth from ShakeOut BC on site.
This year's theme is: If you're prepared for earthquakes, you're prepared for almost anything.
Date: October 16, 2025 Time: 10:00 a.m. PT (rehearsal at 10:16 a.m.) Location: Hall of Honour, British Columbia Legislative Assembly, British Columbia Parliament Buildings, 501 Belleville Street, Victoria, British Columbia (map)
Present speakers:
The Honorable Kelly Green, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Change Preparedness
Erin Stockel, Vice President of BCEA
Greg Moy, Director, Government Relations, Pacific and Western Region, Insurance Bureau of Canada
Alison Baird, BCEA Director and Earthquake Seismologist, Natural Resources Canada
You can get away with it at home, work, school or even through a video conference with your friends and colleagues. Sign up today and encourage your family, friends and colleagues to do the same at www.ShakeOutBC.ca.

One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
