Surigao del Norte earthquake causes kitchen to shake as family sits inside

A terrified family sits in their kitchen after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck their home in the Philippines.

Residents were eating breakfast when the earthquake struck their wooden house in Cantillan town, Surigao del Sur province, this morning, October 17.

The footage shows refrigerators and water containers shaking as the family sat at the dining table.

“A strong tremor was felt and recorded in the nearby Cantillan area of ​​Surigao del Sur,” she added.

The 6.0-magnitude quake struck 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, at 7:03 a.m. local time, at a depth of 28 kilometers (17 miles), state seismic agency Phivolcs reported.

The agency added that no tsunami warnings had been issued, but damage and aftershocks were expected.

The authorities have suspended inter-island travel, port relations and all sea-related activities as a precaution.

The Philippines has been hit by a series of earthquakes in recent weeks, including a 6.9-magnitude earthquake on September 30 that killed at least 76 people in Cebu province.
