The Louvre museum in Paris has been closed due to a theft, the French culture minister said. Rachida Dati wrote in X that the robbery happened on Sunday morning when the museum was opening. The museum confirmed it was closed for the day for “exceptional reasons”, without giving further details, as police were on site investigating. According to French media, the jewels have been stolen as three masked men were upgrading the freight elevator to access the Apollo Gallery, where what remains of France's crown jewels are kept. The gallery is located next to the river Seine. The robbers reportedly smashed windows to gain access to the motorbikes before fleeing. They also had a chainsaw.
