A small earthquake has been reported in New York State.

A magnitude 2.2 earthquake was detected in Lake Ontario about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) north of Pultenville, Wayne County, on Wednesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tectonic movement of the quake occurred at 7:19 p.m. at a depth of approximately 7.9 kilometers underground, and its epicenter was at 43.396 degrees north and 77.175 degrees west, according to the US Geological Survey.

No damages or injuries were reported.

A few people said they felt a “weak” or “mild” earthquake in multiple towns near the shore of Lake Ontario. Pultenville is located about 27 miles northeast of Rochester and 60 miles northwest of Syracuse.
