A strong, shallow M6.8 earthquake strikes east of Beausejour, Guadeloupe

A strong, shallow earthquake recorded by the USGS as a M6.5 struck east of Beauséjour, Guadeloupe, at 12:38 UTC (08:38 local time) on 27 October 2025. The agency reported a depth of 10 km (6 mi). EMSC is reporting M6.5 at a depth of 10 km (6 miles). According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), there is no tsunami threat due to this earthquake.

The epicenter was located 162 km (101 mi) east of Beausejour (population 1,716), 184 km (115 mi) east of Saint-François (population 12,732), and 191 km (118 mi) east of Le Mole (population 22,692).

It is estimated that 125,000 people felt weak tremors, and 58,000 people felt light.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said there is no tsunami threat due to this earthquake.

The US Geological Survey issued a green alert for shaking-related deaths and economic losses. There is a low possibility of casualties and damage.

In general, residents in this area reside in structures exposed to ground vibrations, although resistant structures exist. The predominant weak building types are informal buildings (metal, timber, geology, etc.) and masonry/field masonry.

Little or no landslide/liquefaction is expected, but some may occur in highly exposed areas.

The earthquake was followed by a M6.0 aftershock at 13:54 UTC, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi).
