The earthquake was recorded at 02:39 (03:39) at the stations of the Azores Archipelago's seismic network, and its epicenter was about four kilometers southeast of Raminho (Terceira), according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The authority added in a statement, “No information was received confirming that the earthquake was felt.”

On Tuesday, four tremors measuring between 1.8 and 3.0 on the Richter scale were felt on the island of Terceira, as part of the ongoing volcanic seismic crisis, the Azores Volcanic Seismic Information and Monitoring Center (CIVISA) reported.

According to CIVISA, the tremors were recorded between 2:06 a.m. and 10:12 a.m. local time today (between 3:06 a.m. and 11:12 a.m. in Lisbon) and were felt by residents of the municipalities of Praia da Vitoria and Angra do Heroismo.

CIVISA adds that earthquakes with maximum intensity of 3, 3/4, 4 and 4/5 (modified Mercalli scale) were felt in the two municipalities of the island of Terceira (Praia da Vitoria and Angra do Heroismo).

These events come within the framework of the “ongoing volcanic seismic crisis on the island of Terceira since June 2022.”
