Dozens of earthquakes hit San Ramon, including successive tremors of magnitudes 3.8 and 3.7

Seismic activity rocked the Tri-Valley area on Sunday, with a cluster of more than three dozen earthquakes, including an earlier quake whose magnitude was revised down to 3.8.

A total of 40 earthquakes were recorded between 9:38 a.m. and 5:33 p.m. with their epicenters in the San Ramon Valley, almost all located within San Ramon city limits, according to the USGS.

The largest earthquakes were the first recorded in the series, which was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake and a magnitude 3.7 earthquake in San Ramon that occurred at 9:38 a.m. and 9:39 a.m., respectively.

Another Bay Area earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 2.8, struck about 27 miles east of San Jose in Paterson, an unincorporated area of ​​Stanislaus County. Another 1.3 magnitude earthquake occurred several hours later in nearby San Martin.

There were no initial reports of damage or impacts in Contra Costa County, according to Tracy Dater, assistant chief of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
