MANILA, Philippines – King Charles III expressed his sympathy to Filipinos in the wake of the recent typhoons, floods and earthquakes that devastated parts of the country.

In a statement published by the UK Embassy on Tuesday, November 11, Charles said that he and Queen Camilla were “deeply concerned” by the series of natural disasters that have struck the Philippines in recent weeks and were “deeply saddened” by the loss of life.

King Charles said: “My wife and I are deeply concerned by the news of the typhoons and floods that have struck the Philippines in recent weeks, and we are deeply saddened to hear of further loss of life.”

“I am well aware that the suffering has been exacerbated by the devastating effects of the two earthquakes in October, and our hearts go out to all those severely affected by these catastrophic natural disasters,” he added.

Charles also expressed his “deep and sincere sympathy” to the families of the victims and praised the courage and dedication of emergency responders who continued rescue and relief operations despite suffering their losses.

He added: “Our continued thoughts and prayers are with all those experiencing this horrific suffering at this time.”

As of 11 a.m., formerly Super Typhoon Owan (international name: Vung Wong) has weakened into a severe tropical storm.

The typhoon is estimated to be 370 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan. The Civil Defense Office recorded 18 dead.

Before Awan entered the Philippines' area of ​​responsibility, the country was hit by Typhoon Teno (international name: Kalmiji) on November 4, which left 232 dead and 112 missing as of Tuesday.

Earthquakes shook several parts of the country in October.
