FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. — A small earthquake was recorded early Sunday south of the Kentucky-Ohio border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred at 12:44 a.m. local time (05:44 UTC) about 7 kilometers southeast of Flemingsburg in Fleming County.

According to USGS data, the quake occurred at a depth of 10.8 kilometers, which is consistent with the shallow seismic activity typically felt in eastern Kentucky and the broader central United States.
