An earthquake strikes Bangladesh, leaving 7 dead

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck central Bangladesh on Friday, northeast of the capital, Dhaka.

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck central Bangladesh on Friday, killing at least seven people and injuring many others.

The earthquake occurred around 10:38 a.m. local time, and its epicenter was about 17 miles northeast of the capital, Dhaka. Buildings were damaged during the tremors, and bricks and debris fell on the city streets.

At least seven people were killed by the earthquake, and dozens were injured, according to the Associated Press.

Friday's earthquake was the strongest to hit the country since a magnitude of 5.5 struck the country on December 1, 2023. The epicenter of the quake was located southeast of Dhaka, close enough for people to feel the tremors throughout the city.
