The other earthquake was felt in Dhaka-Narsingdi

Residents felt more tremors in Dhaka and Narsingdi on Saturday, a day after the capital was hit by a strong earthquake. Among these earthquakes, an earthquake occurred on Saturday morning, and residents felt two successive earthquakes in the evening.

So far, no casualties have been reported as a result of the recent tremors.

Yesterday evening, the capital witnessed two successive earthquakes. According to the Meteorological Department, the first quake occurred at 6:06:04 p.m., with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale. Just one second later, at 6:06:05 p.m., a second earthquake measuring 4.3 struck. The epicenter of the first earthquake was in Bada, while the epicenter of the second earthquake was in Narsingdi.

Earlier in the morning, another mild earthquake occurred in Narsingdi. It was felt in Palash upazila at 10:36:12 AM, with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale.

On Friday, at 10:38 a.m., the capital and its surrounding areas were rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.5-5.7 on the Richter scale. Many people ran out of their homes in panic.

The earthquake killed 10 people, including children, and injured more than 200 others. Narsingdi suffered the highest number of deaths, with five dying. Dhaka recorded four deaths, and one in Narayanganj. During the earthquake, panic led many people to jump from buildings. Some buildings are also tilted or have cracks.

Authorities warn of a major disaster if caution is ignored

To assess the condition of the earthquake-damaged buildings, Rajuk Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam conducted field inspections in Armanitola, Mugda and Bada areas of Dhaka's Puran, including Alatonissa School and College. He visited the Armanitola building, where three people were killed after its wall collapsed.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the building owner for failing to submit the building design promptly and not ensuring safety in the risky structure, the Rajuk chief ordered the plans to be submitted within seven days and ordered the removal of unsafe parts of the building.

Yesterday, he inspected several other buildings damaged by the earthquake in Armanitola, Mogda and Badda. In Mojda, he examined a building leaning against a neighboring building. In view of the systemic risks, the ground floor shops in both buildings were ordered to close, and the owners were instructed to submit building plans within seven days. He also directed the immediate closure of roadside food stalls and floating hotels that were illegally occupying the sidewalks.

At Allatonisa School and College in Bada, three buildings were searched. Cracks in the columns prompted orders to submit building plans for two buildings, and measures were directed to remove these two buildings. Classes have been temporarily suspended to ensure safety.
